Long term objective

The long term objective of the action research is to achieve the food security of the victims of Monga (near famine situation for 2-3 months in seven districts in northern Bangladesh) and the community at large through storage of food at community level depositing during favourable period, sustainable employment and income generation for those at the bottom of the society, and demonstrate and replicate the result in other areas so that the MDG in food security could be achieved.

Short term objectives

The short term objectives are to:

a . Achieve food security throughout the year, particularly during the lean season by setting up a community food bank (CFB) to be managed by the target group involving the NGO - Unnayan Uddog;

b . Increase income and employment in the non-formal sectors as diversifying the occupations through training and micro-credit with priority for women’s empowerment; and

c . Set up an OUTLET in the Dhaka city to help in increasing the sales of the products made by the artisans aiming to provide more benefit to the target group. It will directly benefit in getting fair price and contribute in expansion of the market of their products and lessen the profit mongering by the intermediaries.
